In last week's news, I see interesting parallels between the 2 places that are almost on the opposite sides of the globe.
While in Bombay, India, Shiv Sena puts the blame for the rape at Marine drive, on the victim(!) for "dressing prvocatively" and coming to "Marine drive for a walk from Ghatkopar" (Read more on
India Uncut); in Texas, USA, state politicians are proposing a ban on "sexy cheerleading" claiming it is the "cause of
teen pregnancies"
In other news, a 6th grader in Bombay
commits suicide for fear of failing his finals; whereas in Texas, teachers decided to help fifth graders
cheat during their test (Anderson Cooper covered this story on CNN today, transcripts of which arent available online yet).
I had heard that Texas is called mini-India on account of its sizeable Indian population and even that the shape of the state is somewhat similar to the shape of India - now they have somewhat similar news too (besides having me in common that is).
